The Chief Engineer (CE) is the onsite leader of building, equipment and grounds condition of the hotel. This position will lead and/or perform maintenance and repairs, and preventative maintenance, to all areas of the hotel. The CE is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized maintenance shop and for the security of the hotel inventory and assets such as tools, supplies, furniture, fixtures, and equipment. The CE's focus on guest and associate satisfaction, expense control and product quality and will lead to their contribution to the overall goals of the hotel.

Job Description

Principle duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions) include:

  • Implementing and developing plans to maintain equipment, property, grounds and other assets in a safe and acceptable state of repair.
  • Supervise and train all engineering staff in accordance with Sonesta's Operating Procedures.
  • Create and post staff schedules, participate in annual budget for the department and assist with financial and labor forecasting.
  • Assist with departmental administrative task to include, payroll requirements, execute third party contracts, requesting of estimates.
  • Manage the preventative maintenance program for all hotel equipment, guest rooms, public spaces and Back of House areas, using Transcendent.
  • Ensure that room maintenance requests are handled in a prompt and courteous manner using Alice and Transcendent.
  • Ensure all repairs comply with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Follow up on all alarms immediately to determine the exact location and cause. Determine emergency status and report findings to Security. Take immediate action as necessary.
  • Fire Safety Director. Responsible for implementing Hotel the Facility Emergency Plan, staff emergency response training, and regulatory compliance. Must have SFFD Fire Safety Directors Certificate.
  • Ensure all emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested and certified. Maintain records
  • Assist in leading the Safety Committee, along with the Director of Human Resources and Director of Security.
  • Maintenance and repair of full laundry, valet and dry cleaning facility. Coordinate maintenance and repairs with the Director of Housekeeping.
  • Operate and maintain the key control systems, including Morse Watchmen & Saflok hotel lock system.
  • Support and participate in all Sonesta programs.
  • Review all guest and meeting planner comment cards to ensure problems are identified and corrected in a timely manner.
  • Participate in energy conservation and safety programs.
  • Assist with the administration of all vendor contracts under the engineering department.
  • Assist with special projects and renovations.
  • Monitor and maintain monthly utility readings for billing cycles.
  • Directs a team responsible for the maintenance of buildings, including renovations, expansions, and improvements.
  • Contributes to strategic planning, direction, and goal setting for the department or function.
  • Ability to work and communicate with Senior Leadership.
  • Ability to anticipate work needs and interact professionally to extend customer service with a professional and pleasant personality.
  • Ability to perform work without direct supervision and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to deliver high quality customer service and responds to customer needs.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets.
