Our Mission: Closing the 'Experience Gap'

AI coding agents are delivering a 10x boost to development speed, but this acceleration has created a dangerous side effect: the 'Experience Gap.' As features are built faster than ever, the connection to the end-user is lost, leading to products that are functionally correct but experientially flawed.

As a well-funded startup, Apex Agent Labs was founded to close this gap. We are building an AI Teammate that embeds the authentic voice of the user into every stage of the product development lifecycle. By simulating how real users think, behave, and interact with a product, and orchestrating these within a multi-agent system , we provide a continuous validation loop from concept to launch.

Your Role: The Architect of AI Behavior

As our founding Principal Research Scientist, you will define and drive the scientific vision for our core agent architecture. Your research will be the bedrock of our AI Teammate, ensuring it is the most accurate and believable simulation of human behavior in the industry. This is a unique opportunity to translate foundational research into a product that will fundamentally change how great products are built.

What You'll Do:

• Design and implement novel agent architectures that extend LLMs to achieve long-term behavioral coherence.
• Develop systems for creating high-fidelity synthetic users by grounding agent models in rich, real-world human data.
• Own the full research-to-production lifecycle: You will be responsible not just for theoretical breakthroughs, but for implementing and deploying your models within our production multi-agent system .
• Design and execute rigorous scientific evaluations to validate the performance of our simulated users against human behavioral benchmarks.
• Implement frameworks for assessing and mitigating ethical risks, including model bias and privacy.
• Collaborate closely with engineering to ensure your research is successfully integrated and delivers robust, scalable value to our users.
• Publish your findings in premier academic venues (HCI, AI) to keep us at the cutting edge of the field.

Who You Are (Required Qualifications):

• Demonstrated expertise in building systems with LLMs and/or VLMs for simulating human behavior .
• Deep knowledge of agent architectures (memory, planning, reasoning).
• Proficiency in Python and common ML frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A Ph.D. in Computer Science, HCI, Cognitive Science, or a related field with a focus on AI agents, user modeling, or behavioral simulation.
• A strong publication record in top-tier conferences and journals (e.g., UIST, CHI, NeurIPS, etc.).
• Experience creating user models from unstructured, multimodal data streams.
• Familiarity with using qualitative data to create nuanced and less biased agent personas.
• Knowledge of social science methodologies for evaluating models against behavioral benchmarks.
• Experience with parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT) techniques.
• A keen interest in emergent social phenomena and multi-agent coordination.
